We hope there is life out there more spectacular than bacteria and plants. But the truth is usually stranger than fiction. What if the only intelligent life out there, as in, intelligent life as we measure it, is actually us?
And what if those Humans have an exact replica of each of us? One day we might figure out how to visit other star systems only to find out that those star systems are Solar Systems, since the Solar System is a proper name of a star system. We will find planets exactly like ours. Maybe in some of those Solar Systems we are living on Mars, and Earth is the baron wasteland.
In the Quilted Universe theory, space is flat with stitched in universes. We are like fish in a bowl. And if you were to figure out how to venture out into another stitched universe, and keep going, you would find the Milky-way Galaxy. You would find Earth, you would find you.
There are so many variations to this theory, but one I like is that there are many, many, many and so on versions of us all. Let's say we could put a number on how many of us there are. Let's say for every variation of us, there is one quadrillion. Right now, there are one quadrillion of you as you know you. But for every variation of you, there is one quadrillion of. And there are on quadrillion versions of you. And maybe time is not in sync. Perhaps you existed millions of years ago in another universe or maybe you will exist in millions of years from now.
We do not know if there are time-zones among these universes or not. But I do wonder, do we sometimes have bleed-through?
Sometimes I can sense things I can't explain, almost as if I have lived a different life. What if I am feeling what I am going through in another universe?
And if that is true, there could be a way through thought alone that we could travel to the other Earth, and meet our other self. Now, would we meet a version from the one quadrillion of the us we know now, or would we meet a version we hate?
This is something I want to see more science on. Because for every bad or good thing, it has already happened or will happen or is happening right now. Somewhere are answers we need, somewhere we have succeeded where we have failed here, and vise-versa.
Meaning that in one universe homophobes are gay. Mother Theresa was a serial killer, and Richard Dawkins is the Pope. And this is the part that really scares me, knowing that there are all kinds of me's out there. From the good me's to the very worst me's.
Can you imagine, you run into a version of you only to find out that you're everything that you hate? In this theory, this is realistic. Scary, I know.
What do you think? In regards to parallel universes, what do you think you would find? What variations of you can you conceive of? Let me know in the comments below!
